God is in control!

Main Point

God is in control, even when things look like they aren't going to plan.

Overview

This was another video we made on God's character during the coronavirus pandemic. It was so good to have a reminder that God is still in control even when things seem to be spiraling out of control.

Bible Study and Talk Ideas

Below are some ideas of what you could do for a Bible study or talk connected with this video. Obviously, you will need to tailor things to your context with your local knowledge of the group you will be working with.

We see lots of examples of God's control in the world in the Bible. One example is James 4:13-17. Another would be Jeremiah 29:11 or the story of Jesus in the boat (Luke 8:22-25, Matthew 8:23-27).

Bible Study Ideas
Starter activities:
  • You could play "Simon says.." to make the point that nothing is outside ofb God's control. Although you will need to be careful to avoid giving the impression that God is some kind of dictator.
  • Talk about a holiday trip (or similar) where things went wrong and it was obvious that we aren't in control
Some interpretation questions:
  • Do we sometimes feel like things are all going wrong?
  • How can we find comfort in knowing that God is in control?
  • How can we speak to and encourage each other when we are doubting that God is in control
Craft ideas to take home:
  • If you were doing this as a part of a series on God's character, you could make a little scrapbook on God's character where "God is in control" is one page, and loving is another and so on...
Talk Ideas
As always, there are lots of passages you could base a talk on with this video. This is a topic that probably hits a number of pastoral issue so needs to be dealt with sensitively.
  • Why do we think we are in control? What is this an indicator of?
  • How do we know that God is in control?
  • Why can we find comfort in knowing that God is in control?
  • How does God being in control work with suffering?
  • How does this change how we live our lives?
