Bible Study Ideas
Starter activities:
- You could have a dark box which you can't see what's inside (because it is dark) so get people to try and guess what is inside (maybe using their hands to feel the objects inside). And then try again but this time using a torch so that you can actually see what's inside!
- You could come up with your own goodies and baddies and draw pictures of them and name them
- Create a comic strip of light vs darkness. You could always get them to use Jesus vs darkness as the story
Some interpretation questions:
- What does light represent? What does darkness represent?
- Why is it significant that Jesus refers to himself as the "Light of the World?"
- Will the light win over the darkness?
- How does Jesus shine a light on our own lives? How should we respond to this?
Craft ideas to take home:
- Any crafts which involve light might work well - perhaps a little battery operated tea light, decorated with a verse saying that Jesus is the Light of the World?
- You could flesh out the comic book idea and have the story of Jesus rescuing us from darkness as the topic
- Make a stain glass window using card and tissue paper. The design could include "Jesus is the Light of the World". This can then be hung on your window.
Talk Ideas
- A number of different Bible passages might work (as mentioned above)
- See that Jesus is the light and that He wins over darkness
- Take the goodies vs baddies idea and highlight how rubbish Jack's goodies were - could then go towards how Jesus' light shows us up to be sinners and that we need to turn to Him (the ultimate goody!)
